Cloudy all morning the grand picnic came off to day i did not attend we received the sad news of the Death of Petrson this evening Meeting at riders very happy meeting not a great many there

Wednesday 30

quite warm busy as usal Jake stoped in here a minute this morning home all day vincent was up quite late he seems quite affected about Petersons Death

very warm all day redding was hear this morning he looks well i stoped at lizzes in the evening i spent the best part at

Annotation 1

Corporal Theolpilus T. Peterson, Company H, 24th Regiment, United States Colored Troops, died in Berkville, Virginia on August 27, 1865 after a month-long illness.  His obituary in the September 23, 1865 edition of The Christian Recorder  described Peterson as being 28 years old, making him a contemporary of Emilie, Alfred, and EJ.
