stoped in a little while Nell is up here ironing i went out to Mary Cloyes she was not home Called on […] she was out spent the rest of the day home in the evening we went to the lecture

Annotation 1

This might be a reference to Emilie’s sister, Ann, living in Harrisburg.As the had in 1863, the Presbyterian Churches near Emilie’s residence offered weekly lectures throughout 1864.

Annotation 2

Emilie’s church, First (Colored) Presbyterian, hosted lectures each Friday at 7 o’clock in the evening, and at nearby Central Presbyterian lectures took place each Thursday at 8 o’clock.
