Emilie frequently attended lectures, though in her diary she rarely provided identifying details. The First (Colored) Presbyterian Church hosted weekly lectures on Friday nights at 7 o’clock. The Central Presbyterian Church at Ninth and Lombard Streets, approximately two blocks from Emilie’s Seventh Street Presbyterian, hosted weekly lectures on Thursday nights at 8 o’clock. “Church Directory,” The Christian Recorder, January 17, 1863.
