so cool i expect hazards will be home before i am ready for them to has bin quite pleasent very windy I should like to be home tomorrow to go to church it seems

Sunday 30

so long since i came out here to has bin a lovely day I have not bin to church i have not bin well and my arm is so lame that i am unable to  raise it to comb my hair I want to go this evening

Monday 31

i went to church last night and heard a good sermon Johnson girls came over and spent the evening with us to day has bin very pleasent in the evening harriet Ephraim and i went over to with

It is unclear the precise reason why her arm was sore.  On November 22, 1865, Emilie refers to rheumatism, so perhaps this reference is related. What we usually refer to as arthritis today, rheumatism was characterized by pain and stiffness. Emilie’s work as a seamstress might have aggravated this condition.
