at Nells then went to church Shiloh very Pleasent to day Nell has the sore throat no school this evening i went to the lecture very interesting

the last of winter we had a little snow and a little rain we have had a very serene winter meeting at the Derricksons very good meeting af ter meeting i went

Wednesday, March 1, 1865

to the sewing circle Pleasent this morning Nell is quite sick with her Throat very busy all Mary Wilson was married this evening

Author and activist, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper

Frances Ellen Watkins Harper delivered the fourth lecture for the Social, Civil, and Statistical Association of the Colored People of Pennsylvania on February 27, 1865, at Concert Hall. According to the Recorder, Harper delivered a one and a half hour lecture titled “The Cause and Effects of the War” before a “very large and intelligent audience.” After Harper’s lecture, a band of colored soldiers from Camp William Penn struck up the patriotic tune “We’ll Rally Round the Flag, Boys,” which elicited cheers for the Union and Harper. “Mrs. F.E.
