very dull Nellie and i went out shoping she bought a dress and i cut it out for her lizzie stoped at our house and staid untill it was time to go to the lecture we went to the

Friday 23

lecture it was very good not many out owing to the weather very Pleasent to day I stoped at Meals this morning her hand was better Nellie was up and spent the evening Cristy was up

Saturday 24

she was not well very cloudy today Sue was up her this evening went down town had quite a Pleasent chat with Father stoped at Nells a little while she was buisy finishing her Dress

Emilie frequently attended lectures, though in her diary she rarely provided identifying details. The First (Colored) Presbyterian Church hosted weekly lectures on Friday nights at 7 o’clock. The Central Presbyterian Church at Ninth and Lombard Streets, approximately two blocks from Emilie’s Seventh Street Presbyterian, hosted weekly lectures on Thursday nights at 8 o’clock. “Church Directory,” The Christian Recorder, January 17, 1863.

    I love being able to click on a word in the word cloud and see where it takes me. Since I love to sew I chose sewing and was taken to this January 22, 1863 entry. Very cool.

    She would have bought fabric for the dress and cut out the pieces to sew together to make the dress.
