quite a dull day for the first of may raining all day quite hard i heard very good news from father yesterday this evening i stoped at mr livelys and went down to school together not many out

Tuesday, May 2, 1865

Pleasent all day the 6th regiment went away this afternoon i did not get to see John meeting at odgers quite a good number out we stoped at Sarah Shimes

Wednesday,  May 3, 1865

quite warm i have bin very buisy Nell come up this evening Vincent invisible this evening kate little was here yesterday

 

Annotation 1

On May 2, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the 24th Regiment of the U.S.C.T. left for southern service.  Emilie refers to the 6th USCT also out of Camp William Penn but not mentioned in the paper.
