Tuesday, September 1, 1863.

we met some of the familyes People i believe i saw I received a letter from E J Poor Mary is very sick yet i feel very ansious about her no word from Nell this evening harriet

Wednesday 2

and i went over to Johnsons we had nice fun i have just finished a letter to E J and one to Mary Poor girl she is so ill I feel quite worried about her

Thursday 3

very Pleasant to day i have bin very busy all day sewing i have not heard a word from Nell i expect a letter tomorrow harriet and i have had grand bin this week

In Alfred’s absence, his wife Mary and the couple’s young son, Frank, might have been staying with EJ and Sarah.

    It seems likely that Davis writes “i have had grand fun this week” not “grand bin” in the Sept 3 entry.
